This week we had the pleasure of working with Charlie Todd and ImproveEverywhere.com to create a viral video for Popcorn Indiana. I must say this was a great learning experience for me and a lot of fun to watch it all come together in a short amount of time.
I made a bold statement in the boardroom the previous week that I would step up as project manager on this task. In the heat of the moment I had completely forgot that Clint had “called” week 4 the first day we were together. My 10 year “calls dibs” – not a grown man. I did fight him for it more than what was actually shown, so for him to say I didn’t was a bit uncalled for. I really didn’t see a need to get into a fight over something prior to going into the task and we desperately needed a win to make up for the two back to back losses so I backed down and let him have it.
When we met with the CEO of Popcorn Indiana he proceeded to tell us that the company is a “family” company and their products are served in schools, etc. So I was thinking we needed to create a viral video that was wholesome but funny at the same time. The team came up with the idea of randomly smashing people in the face with a bag of popcorn and staging a popcorn fight. As one of the few fathers in the room I immediately pictured my kids watching this and hitting each other with bags of popcorn. I voiced my opinion but nobody seemed to care.
The video we produced turned out good considering the limitations that were placed on us. All in all I still felt we disrespected the brand though.
But a win is a win and we are on to week 5. Yes, I am the project manager and have to lead a bunch of “serial killer circus monkeys” into battle on a runway modeling women’s shoes! Needless to say it gets interesting.
Tune in next week……….
